Stealthy and Deadly

The Scout Snipers

U.S. Marine Corps Scout Snipers are highly trained Marines, professionals in sniping, reconnaissance, and marksmanship. Scout Snipers have a secondary Military Occupational Specialty code of MOS 0317 that can be earned by both Infantry and Reconnaissance Marines.  These men deliver long range precision fire at a designated target from concealed positions to give fire support to ground troops. The Scout Sniper Motto is "One Shot, One Kill".

Scout snipers have two main roles. One is to use precision weapons to deny the enemy freedom of movement and disrupt their operations by shooting key personnel such as commanders, radio operators, messengers, and other high ranking officials. They may also take out hard targets such as communications equipment, armored vehicles, and generators. The other role of the Scout Snipers is to carry out reconnaissance and surveillance operations for their assigned battalion.

Scout snipers are part of a Scout Sniper Platoon, which is an element of the headquarters and service company of their assigned battalion. Each SSP is made up of 8-10 2 man sniper teams. A Scout Sniper team consists of:

1. Scout Sniper Leader/ Spotter is equipped with a M40 rifle and he will also carry a high powered spotting scope.

2. Scout Sniper is armed with a high-caliber anti-material rifle.

There are 3 phases of training in the Scout Sniper School:

1. Marksmanship and Basic Fields Craft Phase
During this phase Marines are trained in basic marksmanship on the Known Distance Range and also receive classes on basic skills such as camouflage, individual movement, weapons systems, observations, and field sketches.

2. Unknown Distance and Stalking
The UKD (Unknown Distance) and Stalking portion starts as soon as Phase 1 is completed. During this phase students will become experts at engaging targets at unknown distances by way of range estimation and range cards.

3.  Advanced Field Skills and Mission Employment

The USMC Scout Snipers are currently stationed in some of the most hostile environments in the world like in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Few, The Proud

The Few, The Proud, The Marines. This is one of the quotes used to describe the USMC. The United States Marine Corps is a branch of the United States armed forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces rapidly. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States. In the civilian leadership structure of the United States military, the Marine Corps is a component of the United States Department of the Navy, often working closely with U.S. naval forces for training, transportation, and logistic purposes; however, in the military leadership structure the Marine Corps is a separate branch.
The USMC participated in several wars. One of the most important wars that included the Marines was World War II. They might not have been in the front lines in Europe but they were in the Pacific theatre of War. They battled the Japanese long and hard almost each day during World War II. Perhaps without their help, the war in the Pacific may have turned out differently and the Japanese may be a big empire if it weren't for  the Marines intervening.
Today, they are fighting in the urban cities of Iraq and other countries where terrorism exists. They are "THE FIRST TO FIGHT" as many people consider them. They encounter insurgents and terrorists in some of the most hostile environment ever. They are the front lines and everybody after them just clean up what the Marines missed (which I doubt).
There are different MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) that the Marines have to offer. Out of all the different MOS, my favored is MOS 0317 or more commonly known to the Marines as the Scout Snipers. Marines who qualify for Scout Sniper School alway recieve rigid training which requires physical and mental strength. You have to be a First Class Private and shoot as expert marksman to qualify.

Before you can consider yourself as a Marine, you have to undergo the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), pass a PFT (Physical Fitness Test), and go through boot camp.
“Semper Fi”. This is a Marine quote that means Always Faithful. Another Marine quote that is connected to this is “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”. This shows a deeper relationship between fellow Marines. Marines do not only consider their fellow Marines as squadmates, they consider them as brothers. The USMC is a brotherhood of Marines that no one but the Marines can fully understand. Once you have forged a relationship between your brother Marines, it will be unbreakable.

These are all the things that I have to say about the USMC. Never forget what the Marines did to make the world a better and safer place for everybody to live in.

Freedom is not free, but the U.S. Marine Corps will pay most of your share.
-Ned Dolan
Marines know how to use their bayonets. Army bayonets may as well be paper-weights.
-Navy Times; November 1994
The United States Marine Corps, with its fiercely proud tradition of excellence in combat, its hallowed rituals, and its unbending code of honor, is part of the fabric of American myth.

Vaulting Obstacles

Today, I will be talking about 3 basic vaults used in parkour. These vaults were made so as to be more efficient in jumping over obstacles (known as vaults to traceurs). Together with some information about the vaults, I will include some videos to show you how these vaults look like in action. I will talk about the Monkey Vault, the Dash Vault, and one of my favorites, the Lazy Vault.

Monkey Vault
  1. Run up to the object you are vaulting at a steady pace. You will soon learn how fast or slow you need to go to make the vault. Look where you will place your hands on the surface of the object.
  2. Place your hands on the object which should have space for you to move.
  3. You have to almost jump and tuck your feet in, but letting your arms do the work. Once your feet have became parallel with your arms, you have to let go of the surface, by pulling your arms up so they are in the air.
  4. Land and continue running.

Dash Vault

  1. Run towards the obstacle at a reasonable clip: something more than a jog but a little less than a full run. Keep an eye on a good place to plant your feet for the vault, somewhere about a yard or so from the obstacle.
  2. Place your feet on the chosen spot, making sure they are steady enough to support your weight, but flexible enough to help you move into the dash vault. Bend your knees slightly as you make the plant: you will use them to push off into the jump.
  3. Jump both forwards and upwards, using your legs to propel you over the obstacle. You want to watch your height just as much as your distance--the instinct is to focus too much on forward momentum without paying attention to upward lift. You want to make sure you are jumping high enough to clear the obstacle completely.
  4. Move your legs in front of you and to the side as you vault over the obstacle. You want them to be clear of the obstacle and in front of your hands and arms. One trick is to make the dash vault as if you are planning on sitting on top of the obstacle rather than jumping over it: this will put your legs in the right position.
  5. Push down and out on the top of the obstacle with your hands as you move over it. This helps you propel outwards and prepares you for the landing.
  6. Center your gaze on the piece of ground where you intend to land. Keep your eyes focused on it as you perform your dash vault.
  7. Point your toes down and land on the balls of your feet. As you do so, you should bend your knees again to help cushion the impact and push forward to shift your momentum in the direction you intend to move. This will allow you to transition smoothly from the dash vault to perform another parkour maneuver of your choice.

Lazy Vault

  1.  Prepare yourself to complete a lazy vault by perfecting your balance. Find a low wall or rail that's about waist height.
  2. Practice balancing your weight on one arm. To do this, stand with one hip facing the wall or rail, slightly tuck in your elbow to your ribs, and jump up and shift body weight on your arm. Be sure to jump at an angle towards the wall. When you do the lazy vault, this will be your take-off arm.
  3. Create momentum with your leg to help you get the height necessary to get over the rail or wall. This is done by kicking and swinging your leg towards the wall. Begin with the balance jump you've perfected in Step 1. As you jump, kick or swing the leg closest to the obstacle up to the top of it.
  4. Shift your body weight to the leg that is now on top of the rail. Bring your hips forward to bring your other leg over the top. As you do this, bring your other hand down for support.
  5. Push yourself away from the wall, rail or other obstacle after you've cleared it. This push will give you momentum to continue your run. Make sure you land on one foot and push off that foot to continue running.
  6. Practice the jump repeatedly until you can eliminate shifting your body weight to the leg on top of the rail and instead swing both legs over in a fluid movement.

Frankenstein Lives

What does the title mean you say? Can you name some movies with characters named Frankenstein? I can. He appears in the movie with this title:Death Race. The prequel of Death Race is going to come out in 2011, so don't get to excited yet. Death Race 2, or Death Race: Frankenstein Lives, is going to be directed by Dutch filmmaker Roel Reiné. It was written by Tony Giglio and Paul W. S. Anderson. Death Race will star Sean Bean, Tanit Phoenix and Danny Trejo.

The film will explore the career of the Death Race racer Frankenstein. It's the prequel to the movie Death Race. At the beginning of the movie Death Race, the original Frankenstein dies in a race. Death Race: Frankenstein Lives explores the life of the original Frankenstein from the beginning as his life as a corrupt cop until the beginning of the original Death Race movie.

Cast:

  • Sean Bean as Markus Kane
  • Luke Goss as Carl 'Luke' Lucas
  • Tanit Phoenix as Katrina Banks
  • Danny Trejo as Goldberg
  • Ving Rhames
  • Lauren Cohan
  • Robin Shou as 14K
  • Frederick Koehler as Lists
  • Joe Vaz as Rocco
  • Sean Higgs as Hillbilly Con
On November 13, 2009, the cast began making the prequel. On December 7, 2009, it was announced that Roel Reiné would direct the film. On January 5, 2010, Luke Goss was announced for the leading role as Carl "Luke" Lucas, who becomes "Frankenstein".
Principal photography began on February 13, 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa. The film was shot in an abandoned cement factory near the poor townships outside Cape Town. It will be released on October 3, 2010.

Hope you enjoy the trailer!

Wanted 2

Wanted fans watch out. If you enjoyed the first movie, your going to get excited when I tell you this: There is going to Wanted 2. In fact, screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt were hired to start on the job way back in September. Wanted is based on Mark Millar's 2003 six-issue comic book with the same name.

As Derek Haas explains, the setting of the comic was in a world where the villains rid the world of heroes.  We'll be seeing much more of Terence Stamp in Wanted 2. He plays a rogue agent in the first film, operating outside of the fraternity.
The sequel got a huge budget: $150 million according to Superhero hype. This means that there is going to be a lot of effort that is going to be put into this movie with stunning special effects and a lot more.

James McAvoy will of course reprise his role in Wanted. But what's more surprising is to hear that Angelina Jolie is likely to be back too. Did you think that she died in the first film? Well think again because Hollywood is going to prove you wrong.

This awe inspiring, stunning stunts, and bullet curving movie masterpiece is sure to get us all excited for when it comes out.

Sadly, they have not yet released (or made) the official movie trailer of Wanted 2. To take the place where I was going to put the Wanted 2 trailer, I'm just going to put the trailer of the first movie. Something's better than nothing right? Just imagine it as being the trailer for both movies for now.

Hawaii Five-O 2010

Hawaii Five-O is a remake of the 1970's crime drama that features a new federal task force who takes on every crime that the Islands of Hawaii can bring to them. It is starred by Alex O'Loughlin who plays Detective Steve McGarrett, a decorated Naval Officer who joined the police force, and Scott Caan who plays Detective Danny "Danno" Williams, a relocated police man from New Jersey who protects Hawaii for his 8 year old daughter, and Daniel Dae Kim acting as Chin Ho Kelly, an ex-Honolulu police agent wrongly accused for corruption. Joining them is Grace Park playing Chin's cousin Kono. Detective Steve McGarrett is on a vendetta to find his father's killer with the help of the new Five-0 unit. The bad guys in the Islands of Hawaii better not keep their guard down, because Hawaii Five-0 is going to take them down.

On September 13, 2010 Hawaii Five-0 had its official world premiere at Sunset on the Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki. The premiere was free and open to the public. Members of the cast were in attendance, as were local celebrities including Hawaii governor Linda Lingle, Mayor of Honolulu Kirk Caldwell, and former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hanneman. The pilot episode was aired last November 14, 2010 (9:00 PM) in the Philippines. The story starts Steve McGarrett goes home to Honolulu after his father was murdered by Victor. The governor of Honolulu, Governor Pat Jameson, gives McGarrett the opportunity to head a new elite police task force and all authority to stop all the crimes in every way possible. He turns down the job at first but when he meets his old friend Chin Ho Kelly and eventually he takes the job. McGarrett goes back to his father's house and investigates the garage and opens the tool box with a champ sticker on it. He does so because of his father's words to him: "Listen to me, Champ". McGarrett hears a noise and draws his gun, finding Williams also with his gun drawn and tells each other to drop his weapon. They ask each other to draw his badge before they drop their gun. The story now begins.

Parkour: Flowing and Flying through Obstacles

Parkour is a sport that requires regular training and a good physical condition. The main goal of Parkour is to move from one place to another as fast and efficient as possible. Although the term "Free-Running" is used interchangeably with Parkour, Both are different from each other. The goal is basically the same but in Parkour, you have to get to your goal as fast as possible utilizing only the techniques needed while in Free-Running, you incorporate more tricks than what is needed like flips and the like.

Parkour was founded by David Belle when he was 15 years old in Lisses, France. He was influenced by his father because of his father's military history. He emphasized the integration of the body and mind in overcoming obstacles through running, jumping, leaping, and using quadrupedal movement. He invented Parkour using his military training, gymnastic ability, and athleticism.

Male practitioners of Parkour are called traucers. We call female practitioners of Parkour a traceuse. They do death defying tricks to overcome obstacles in their way.

Different countries are finding ways to incorporate parkour in training their military. The British Royal Marines have traucers and traceuses to train their recruits. Colorado parkour began introducing parkour into the U.S. Military and now, it is slowly being introduced to the United States Marine Corps.

Parkour is considered as a philosophy and an art as well as a form of martial arts. Most people see parkour as just a plain sport. The true lovers of parkour consider it as an art because each intricate body movement, each decision on how to overcome obstacles and be as fluid as possible makes the parkour makes it an art in motion which is hard to perfect. You may be wondering why they considered it as a form of martial art because it does not look like a form of self defense. Well it is. The body has to choices when in times of danger, fight or flight. The “fight” martial arts let your body defend itself by attacking the threat. Well, Parkour is the martial arts for flight because you run away as efficiently possible. You still defend yourself in times of trouble but not in a way like fighting but in a way of avoiding a fight so no one can get hurt.

The tricks of parkour need proper practice to perfect because one false move can result in a dead body in the world. Some of the most important moves of parkour mimic animal movements and skills. For example, when doing a Cat Jump, Cat Balance, and Cat to Cat, you need balance and flexibility to get these moves done, just like the cat.

Another fundamental trick that needs to be learned is the vault. There are many kinds of vaults. Some of the common vaults are the Turn Vault, Dash Vault, Reverse Vault, Speed Vault, Lazy Vault, Kong Vault and Kash Vault. You need to be very precise to do these techniques properly.

The most important move in parkour is the roll. It is sometimes called the breakfall, the parkour roll, or the PK roll. You do this when you have just performed a trick that lets you fly through the air. When you don’t do the roll when you land, all the force goes down to your feet which can be very painful when you’re not used to it. When the roll is done, it takes away most of the damage and helps you to continue with your flow.

So that is about it. That is all I want to say about parkour. Always remember safety when you try to do it for the first time. And when doing it, always enjoy!
"Stop talking and Move"-David Belle
"The way of the parkour is to continue, not to stay here.”-Sebastian Foucan
"We are Traceurs, and we will prevail. Parkour is not just a way of life. Parkour is life."-unknown

My SLU Photoblog

In the beggining, some CICM priest went north of the Philippines and settled in a city called Baguio. Here is a sneek peak of how it looks now (or at least how it looked like before).

I think that is enough of Baguio City for one blog time. I went a little off track there. Now it is time to get back to the main topic. As I was saying, CICM priests that was headed by Reverent Father Seraphin Devesse. They founded a one classroom school which started with 10 local boys. Now, the story of Saint Louis University starts.
Saint Louis University Laboratory Elementary School. It is here where our fellow Louisians from kindergarten through the sixth grade go to school. It is located in General Luna Street, Baguio City. I used to go there during my elementary days and this is where I had some of my happy moments.

I think we all want to move on. So now I will share with you SLU-LHS (Saint Louis University-Laboratory High School for all of you who are wondering what that acronym means). It used to be an exclusive school for boys but they made it co-ed for a reason that I still do not know. This is where I am going to school today. Most people say that high school is where you will be having the best years of your life. Then why not make it even better with you having your best years within the best school. I guess I am a little exagerating but I still think that SLU-LHS is the best school. Any way, here is a preview of my school.

I have a feeling that I am forgetting something. Let me think here. Oh yes! It wouldn’t be SLU without having the college department. To be honest, I don’t have anything to say about it because I don’t have any idea what to say. Well, they have an awesome campus. At least I said something good about the college. Just to show you how awesome their campus is, here are some pictures.

Now that I have shared this information to you, I guess it is time for me to share with you that SLU will be having its centennial celebration. Since its founding in 1911, SLU has enjoyed 100 years of serving Baguio with its mission to transform. Here are some activities that SLU will be doing to celebrate its Centennial. But before that, I would like you to take a peek at the SLU Centennial emblem.

So here are the activites that I have copy pasted (yes, I admit it) from the SLU website.
